Coffee is Tanzania’s third largest export crop generating earnings averaging US$100 million per year; 14.1% of total export value. Tanzania earned $ 231 million (about TZS 440.5 billion) from the sale of over 81,498 tonnes of the beans collected in the 2022/2023 crop season.

More than 450,000 farming families derive their livelihoods from growing coffee with 2,000,000 additional people employed directly or indirectly in the industry. These farmers produce 90% of Tanzania’s coffee, thus supporting the livelihoods of an estimated 2.4 million individuals.
