Coffee is Tanzania’s third largest export crop generating earnings averaging US$100 million per year; 14.1% of total export value. Tanzania earned TZS 180 billion ($79 million) from the sale of over 65,000 tonnes of coff¬ee collected in the 2018/2019 crop season.

More than 450,000 farming families derive their livelihoods from growing co¬ffee with 2,000,000 additional people employed directly or indirectly in the industry. These farmers produce 90% of Tanzania’s coff¬ee, thus supporting the livelihoods of an estimated 2.4 million individuals.
